Not only do they have the colors, they are unique in that they form multiple layers of blooms in arrangements stacked on top of each other! Colors you can look forward to are pink, red, orange, yellow, burgundy, white and blends of these colors. The stems hang 12 inches or higher over the green foliage and are stems of color everywhere as each plant has multiple stems, they look amazing when planted en masse in a nice moist shaded spot. They favor cool temperatures and bloom in early spring. Attracts hummingbirds, butterflies and bees but do not attract deer or rabbit. The genus Primula is vast with many hundreds of species. They hail primarily from the northern hemisphere with the greatest diversity found in the Himalayan region, especially Yunnan, Sichuan and Burma. However, they extend from the subtropics all the way to north of the Arctic Circle. Some need boggy soils, others relatively dry, well-drained soil. You can grow plants like the Candelabra primroses when you have wet clay soil. They grow wild along rivers and streams in regions of China, India and Nepal. We never use artificial heat, primulas are COOL germinators! As a rule best temperatures are usually between 10 and 15 degrees C. (e.g. a cool greenhouse or northerly window sill) PLEASE NOTE: Temperatures exceeding 15 C can prevent germination, and above 20 C expect very little germination as seeds can go dormant as a protective measure. Germination can take up to 6 weeks, but sometimes takes much longer. I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine,Florida. All seed are NOT alike! There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow.
