African Red is a very unique strain of Brightleaf Tobacco originating in Africa. It is a columnar shaped plant, not being as wide as typical American varieties. This allows more plants in a smaller growing area. They reach a average height of 7-8 feet with medium light green leaves that dry to a beautiful reddish brown, hence the name. They have a mild flavor, but are very high in nicotine. Over 29 mg of nicotine per gram of leaf. This is almost double the average. Great for stronger tobacco blends. Goes very well in cigarette, pipe, and chewing tobacco blends. Matures in 80-90 days and grows well virtually anywhere in the US and Canada. A very hardy strain.
